10 Different Kinds of Bookmarks
Bookmarks! A reader’s best friend. (Unless you’re one of those horrible people who dog-ears the pages of books… poor books.)
It has come to my attention that there is more than one type of bookmark. They all share one common trait—that of marking a page in a book in order to find it again—but beyond that, bookmarks come in all shapes and sizes.
Are you intrigued yet?
Okay, I’ll stop stalling. Here is what I found: ten different kinds of bookmarks, coming right up!
1. Basic Bookmark

We all know this one. A rectangular piece of paper or card, possibly laminated, probably a bit bent by use. The kind of thing they hand out for free at your local library along with the ‘what’s on’ pamphlets. You know, those things that you lose whenever you need them, but find as soon as you start cleaning up?
Yes, the classic bookmark. Very handy… when you know where they are.
2. Origami Bookmark
How cute are these?!
Origami bookmarks are one of my favourite ways to find my page again.
I remember making one of these a few years ago, as a craft activity with friends—a pretty heart-shaped corner bookmark, that was used for three months straight until it died of overuse.
Here's a link to a wiki-how page where you can learn to do it yourself!
3. Paperclips

Yes. The ordinary paperclip can double as a bookmark! Imagine my surprise when I realised that this common stationery tool could be used slipped over the pages of the book I was reading… honestly, as a stationery-lover, I should probably have thought of it sooner.
4. Pressed Flowers
Have you ever opened a book to find a gorgeous flower pressed inside it?
While this could stain the pages if it’s not done right, these bookmarks from nature are beautiful, and can later be used for crafting.
5. Tissues

The lazy person’s bookmark… a tissue. Clean, of course.
Or, if you’re me, any random, clean piece of paper will do. Old receipts are particularly useful—they have the right length for it.
6. Magnetic Bookmark
I once received a magnetic bookmark as a gift—it was a novelty, and much appreciated. I stopped using these after I accidentally tore a page, though… be very careful when removing magnets from paper.
7. Sleeve Bookmark
Now that I’ve seen this, I’m struck with the sudden urge to make one. Or two. Or many more.
Sleeve bookmarks, usually with some element of stretch to them to help with putting them on and taking them off, always seem so homey. Maybe it’s because most of them are home-made…
8. Metal Bookmark

Metal bookmarks come in many different styles and cuts. While I personally don’t use them—I’m a little terrified of denting my books—I think they are beautiful. I even have one or two.
9. Sticky-notes
More stationery! I’ve definitely grown to love sticky-notes (also known as post-its), for many reasons. And they’re rarely ever sticky enough to damage the books they’re stuck inside.
10. Ribbons

A lot of old books have ribbons attached at the spine to act as built-in bookmarks, but in lieu of that, an ordinary ribbon works just as well! And it adds an air of sophistication as well.
That’s it for my post on bookmarks!
What kind of bookmarks do you use? Do you use bookmarks at all? Why or why not? Comment and let me know. I’d love to hear from you!
May every story be incredible—

I also do sometimes use Kleenex, but I'm a fan of the fold-over bookmarks. I have a stash from friends.
Such a fun post!
I once read somewhere that "those who use bookmarks are wimps" but as a forever bookmark lover, I'm not backing down. 😂 I love using the receipts librarians give you when you borrow a book---they are the perfect length and so very convenient! When I don't have one of these on hand, I will, like you, tear up a piece of paper (any kind, as long as it is clean) and use it.
